Press Release
July 19, 2010
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Simcoe (BBBSSS), I would like to speak to the rumors which say we are closing our doors. We are NOT closing our doors at this time. However, it is true that due to economic difficulties, BBBSSS is having financial troubles. The economic conditions in our area have made it difficult for us to continue our operations at full capacity. Many people do not realize that BBBSSS is not government funded nor are we a United Way sponsored agency. In fact, we are self sufficient and operate completely on fundraising events, grants, foundation support, and donations. It is true that some foundations who previously funded BBBSSS and some grants have n0ot been received this year.
BBBSSS needs your help.
We are a strong, passionate, and committed team for our communities. All our staff have taken drastic cuts and given up holidays to ensure our doors remain open and services to children remain intact. Our volunteer board continues to work diligently to help avert further crisis. At this point, we have had minimal disruption to services. We are making each and every effort to continue the many programs we provide in our community.
We have now secured alternate rental space at a much lower cost beginning September 1, 2010. We would like to thank CONTACT for allowing us to out of our existing lease at 54 Queen Street South in Tottenham and publicly acknowledge CONTACT’s generosity.
It is extremely important the children and families within our organization continue receiving the essential services we offer. It is also essential our staff continue to work diligently to ensure both child and volunteer safety.
You are invited to attend our upcoming fundraising events at Alliston Potato Festival with a Dunk Tank & BBQ (outside Giant Tiger), our Community Fun Day on September 25th in Alliston, and our Fundraising Gala dated October 2nd, 2010 at Woodington Lake Golf Club in Tottenham. For more information on these and other events, please visit our website www.bbbssouthsimcoe.org or call the office at (905) 936-9788.
If you are willing to make a donation to help us to continue Sharing A Little Magic in children’s lives OR if you would like to run a Fundraising Event to benefit BBBSSS, please contact Kelly Cetnarski, Executive Director at (905) 936-9788 or via email at on.aibn.com.
Please help keep Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Simcoe open without further interruption. Thank you in advance for your support and consideration.
Kelly Cetnarski, Executive Director, BBBSSS
